Dubbed as the Danish equivalent to an urban ‘Burning Man’, Trailerpark Festival is a celebration of music and art. This month, a convoy of trailers is set to roll into Amsterdam from the festival’s hometown of Copenhagen for the first time ever. It is going to be a 16-hour pop-up party at Amsterdam Roest, taking place throughout Saturday 27 June, and the whole shebang is free to attend!
Commenting on the plans for the Amsterdam event is Simon Caspersen from the Trailerpark team: “We went to a Swedish festival last year with some DJs and sent some of our art trailers to a festival in Berlin, but it’s the first time we will do a proper pop-up event outside of Copenhagen and we are looking so much forward to it. Amsterdam was natural for us – we have some good connections, we love the city and think it’s a really interesting creative hub that we can connect and co-create with. We are so excited to go. We have rented a huge house for the team, artists and bands where most of the Copenhagen crew will stay. I think it will be a fun weekend.”
Celebration of art & music
Indeed, it is bound to be a colourful day and night, with artists, DJs and bands from Copenhagen and Amsterdam’s thriving art and music scenes providing the entertainment. During the day artists and designers will do live artwork and transform the entire venue with art and scenography.
Scott Cooper (DK) has curated the art at Trailerpark Amsterdam and will create artworks at Roest himself. He will be supported by long-time collaborators as part of the Trailerpark Festival crew, Petrushka Miehe-Renard and Mikkel Bang Bang that are leading the art projects in Copenhagen, and will also participate in Amsterdam. The works of Dutch- and Danish-based artists will be on show: Hedof (NL) (responsible for the identity of the Dutch edition of the festival), Ilse Weisfelt (NL), Joren Joshua (NL), Friso Blankevoort (NL), Daniel van der Noon (DK), Hyland Mather’s X-O (@thelostobject) (NL).
Sizzling summer soundtrack
The soundtrack to all of the Trailerpark Festivals sizzles with an electronic edge. It was at the event in Copenhagen in 2012 that I first saw the Danish act Indians, subsequently inspiring our luistertip for his album (which can be found here). The Amsterdam edition is no exception with two Danish live acts performing: the popnoir duo Darkness Falls and the low-fi synth-pop duo First Hate. Alongside will be Dutch band Tears & Marble, with a whole host of DJs keeping the music going until the early hours.
Calling all curious and creative types
The location for the event fits the Trailerpark vibe perfectly. The team is already well underway in crafting the scenography. “We hope that a curious and creative crowd will show up and have a great time with us. We want to share the unique Trailerpark experience with like-minded people in another city and since we love Amsterdam and feel a strong connection to the city, it was only natural to create a 16-hour pop-up event here. It was all made possible by the great support of local cool kids and the venue Roest who have put tremendous amount of energy in securing we create an amazing experience for the people who join us,’ says Carla Cammilla Hjort, the founder of ArtRebels and Trailerpark Festival.”
