Maybe you have seen it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or in the right sidebar of this website: I, Janine, am planning to travel through Scandinavia for a year. With a van. And cover the Nordic arts and culture from there. You can read the whole story here. I plan to leave The Netherlands in March 2014, which is over a little more than six months. Before I go, I plan on giving you updates on the process every sunday from now on!
For now I would like to share my schedule for the upcoming months.
August
– Make an as complete list as possible with everything I need and how much money I will need. You can find it on my blog Nomadic NienJa, which I have started as a place where I can write down all my thoughts on the journey, I might integrate it with Nordic Vibes when I have found the right structure to do so.
– Find companies that might be interested in sponsoring with either products (like new tires for the van) or money.
– Find out how other travellers managed their journeys by asking questions to and reading books by a.g. Martijn Arets (who went on Brand Expedition), Tjerk Ridder (who hitchhiked through Europe with a caravan), Marianne van der Steen (who is a climber and lives in a van 7 months a year), Janne Plukt (who is now travelling through Europe to seize beautiful moments), pioneer Ramon Stoppelenburg (who travelled through Europe in 2001 via his website let me stay for a day), Henk-Jan Geel (who is going on an artic mission in the winter of ’14 and did something similar in Sweden), and more. And ask: how did they get sponsorship? What would they do different? etc.
– Find out which media might be interested in articles. After all I am a freelance journalist!

September
– Continue reading stories by the above mentioned inspiring people
– Approach different companies who might be interested in a form of sponsorship.
– Approach media
– Start making a plan for crowdfunding
– Find other ways of getting funding
The upcoming month are still a surprise, because of what I will find in august and september. So not that many plans:
October
– Mainly continue what I started in september: keep on finding advice, inspiration and contacting brands and media.

November
– Start looking out for a van. I imagine 2nd hand vans are cheap in this period because no one is going camping in the winter.
– Again: mainly continue what I started in september: keep on finding advice, inspiration and contacting brands and media.
December
– Keep looking out for a van. I imagine 2nd hand vans are cheap in this period because no one is going camping in the winter.
– Again: mainly continue what I started in september: keep on finding advice, inspiration and contacting brands and media.
January
Only two months to go!
– Arrange logistics: move out of my house, sell some of my furniture, store some of my stuff at my mums attic (hi mum! Reading this? 😉 )
– Start planning the route I wanna take.
Februari
My last full month in The Netherlands!
Time to arrange last minute things.
March
TIME TO GOOOO!!!!!!
My goal for next sunday: have a first draft of a list with possible sponsors.
Advice, emotional support and ideas are very welcome!
