Short and sweet luistertip this week as we let the music speak for itself. May we present Alice Boman from Malmö, Sweden – a master of delicate sounds and a ‘force of fragility’, according to her record label.
Her first EP Skisser was released last month (on Adrian Recordings). Its title translates from Swedish as ‘sketches’ and across the five-track EP we are voyeurs into Boman’s own private little world. The songs were never meant to be aired to the world apparently, but we are glad they managed to escape.
Reminscent of the forlorn sounds of Hope Sandoval (of Mazzy Star), we hear Boman in a plaintive mood singing songs of love and longing, all the way from the opening track ‘Waiting’ through to the closer ‘What Are You Waiting For’. The tracks in between don’t have names, such is the raw nature of this work.
This is not shiny happy stuff. But I am happy to have the sounds Alice Boman in my life. Stop and listen; listen and time will stop.
