Luistertip week 39: EF (SE)

Posted by: Carmel , 23 september, 2012

Swedish indie/post-rock instrumentalists EF spent some time this summer playing with many instruments in Gothenburg. Surrounded by a multitude of amps, guitars, percussion and synths, all the way through the alphabet to a vibrophone and a Wurlitzer organ, the party of five gathered together to make some beautiful music at the legendary Svenska Grammofonstudion.

Over the course of a few days in July (with a quick trip to Rock Herk festival in Belgium in between) the band members were kept busy, with Oskar Lindberg (Soundtrack of our Lives, Jeniferever, I’m from Barcelona) in charge of recording. What resulted is the limited edition 10-inch vinyl EP Delusions of Grandeur, which is released on 28 September on Pelagic Records and is available also as a digital download.

With four brand new songs featuring numerous guest musicians and big orchestrations, the EP was mixed and mastered by Magnus Lindberg of Cult of Luna fame, who also did the band’s last album Mourning golden morning which was released in 2010 – the band’s third full-length album. Having been together 9.5 years (formed in 2003), there is  a back-catalogue that sure is worth digging into if you’re not already familiar with the EF sound.

So we are happy to share this teaser for the EP and the good news (for vinyl fans like me) is that you can choose your colour of vinyl – either black or, if you are quick  enough, clear vinyl with splashes of colour! (You can order from the label’s website here). Then of course the other good news is that the band starts a tour this week – 14 dates in 14 days – these guys like it busy! They are playing in Gent, Tilburg and Middelburg – with support on the Middelburg date coming from Halo Of Pendor (solo project of Daniel Öhman from EF). At the gigs will be some lovely new merch (tote bags, t-shirts) and perhaps even some of the magnificent cover artwork and tour posters, illustrated and put together by the very talented Staffan Larson.
