The Icelandic indie-folk group Of Monsters and Men will be appearing very soon at the sold-out festival Into The Great Wide Open on Vlieland, making it the band’s third appearance on Dutch soil this year.
The Reykjavik-based group of self-proclaimed day dreamers will take to the stage on Saturday 8 September and, to celebrate this fact, we’d like to share with you the exclusive poster that has been designed for the OMAM gig by Army of Cats.
The limited-edition poster series follows on from an initiative between ITGWO and Push & Pull in 2011. This year, the Groningen-based agency once again presents the work of five internationally-recognised designers – including Push & Pull’s owner Mara Piccione, as well as Luke Drozd, Talkseek and Doe Eyed. This series features specially screenprinted posters and you can read more about the other bands featured in these one-off designs here.
Meanwhile, if you’d like to see/hear more about the design process of the Icelandic folk’s icey blue-inspired gig poster, you can do so at the Army of Cats‘ blog (aka Graham D Pilling) – which has a variety of initial sketches illustrating the development of the design concept through to the printed colour separations – or you might like to watch this little video of the posters being printed. This really is a delightful and insightful presentation about the silkscreen process set to an OMAM soundtrack. There are only a select number of these lovingly-prepared works of art out there in the world and you might be wondering how you might be able to get your hands on one? Well the Of Monsters and Men poster (along with the full series) will be available for sale at the festival for those lucky enough to seek them out.
Into The Great Wide Open, happening from 6 to 9 September, is an event surrounded by nature where music is central but there are also visual arts, film and much more. This is the final of three previews – featuring music, film and art – of Nordic-related niceness happening at the festival which we hope have delighted your musical and visual taste buds!
