On this summery Saturday, I was searching for some new sounds and I discovered this Swedish band that made me smile. For a start, there’s the band’s name: Hhappiness. I think the extra ‘h’ makes the band’s name that extra bit jolly. And then there’s the single ‘Bananas’ that was released on Almost Musique earlier this year. With what seems to be a double-A sided EP, the three tracks on this CD are all rather good at inducing some summery, happy-feeling vibes.
Hhappiness (I think there should have been an extra ‘n’ in there too, to balance out the vowels and the consonants) has a low-fi pop feel with high falsetto-y vocals and bits and pieces of noise in-between. I can imagine them being a fun band to see at a summer festival but alas they aren’t yet scheduled to play in NL/BE any time soon. The band will play the Trailerpark Festival in Copenhagen at the end of August, as good a time as any to head to Scandinavia perhaps?
Here’s the first track ‘All Kinds of Trouble’ and the video for the ‘Bananas’ track, filmed in the depths of winter by the band and friends in Stockholm. The EP is available in physical format from Almost Musique and as a download from iTunes.
