If you fancy a fix of Finnish art and design, perhaps you have already planned a trip to the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012? If not, then you could always hop on your bike to Lauriergracht in central Amsterdam where you can catch some unique artworks by a number of the country’s key illustrators.
Organised by Agent Pekka, the Helsinki-based creative consultancy that opens its first contintental Europe office in Amsterdam this week, the exhibition is is called ‘Pekka is Here‘ and is a celebration to put Pekka on the Dutch map.
Made in collaboration with 25 artists, the exhibition will open from Friday 4 May at Guns & Butter gallery in the heart of Amsterdam and features a wide range of contemporary illustrations and graphic design from Finnish artists – such as Rami Niemi, Lotta Nieminen, Santtu Mustonen and Janine Rewell to name but a few – as well as other nationalities, including the UK-based Jamie Cullen (whose illustrations accompany this article).
Some of the artists will be present at the party on Friday, mingling amongst the series of unique artworks specially made for the occasion. Afterwards, the show will be open to view on Saturday 5 May and Thursday 10 May to Saturday 12 May from (gallery opening hours: 12 – 6pm).
