Tonight in Paradiso, Danish band Pinkunoizu kick-start a short spell of dates in the Netherlands and Belgian – although, technically, the first Dutch date is a little earlier in the day with an in-store as part of Record Store Day at noon in Middelburg.
Maybe you caught the band when they last played Amsterdam at De Nieuwe Anita not too long ago but, if not, now is your chance to get along and see this talented four-piece do what they do best: creating an experimental soundscape with a live experience that is one to remember.
Pinkunoizu – which means ‘pink noise’ in Japanese – has been likened to Animal Collective and Fleet Foxes, with a sound that swings from psychedelic to folklandish and a bit of everything in-between. But if that doesn’t intrigue you, maybe the band’s own description of their sound will: ‘lo-fi, high-life, modern composition music, ancient folkish songwriting, Asian 60′s pop and future post-apocalyptic underwater rock’.
Free Time!, the band’s debut album, was released last month on Full Time Hobby and here are some tasters for you. First up is the first track of the album and recent single ‘Time is Like a Melody’, as well as a video (by Graeme Maguire) for another recent single ‘ Parabolic Delusions’. There is also a previously-unreleased track, performed live here by the band a few months ago as part of a session for The Line of Best Fit. If you enjoy these tracks, maybe see you at the gig tonight?!
