Daniel Norgren is a man of many talents. Hailing from the Swedish city of Borås, this is a singer-songwriter who is not only master of the guitar, but master of a pencil too. As shown in the extremely limited edition (i.e. limited to one!) of the “Test Print Box Vol.1” (photos here), which included drawings, vinyl records, lyrics, test pressings, lots of illustrations, a poster, a t-shirt… the list goes on. This was all offered up to one lucky individual earlier this year. I’m not sure who the winner was* but I’m just sad I discovered about it too late to enter, as I am drooling over these delectable creative offerings.
I am also drooling over his music and, luckily, I haven’t missed the boat with his new album as it is not even out yet. Raw rock and roll, blues, garage rock – Daniel Norgren has them all – delivered in his own, unique way. He is a one man band on electric guitar, drums, kazoo and harmonica, and if you’re lucky, maybe he will roll out his self-built synthesiser or some other mad-cap instrument-creations which – rumour has it – have in the past been made from old car parts and mattresses!
You can see him play at the Nordic Delight festival on 2 March in Utrecht, but whether he will be with any home-made instruments is unconfirmed. This gig this Saturday comes just one day after he releases his new album Buck (out on 1 March on Superpuma Records, and on Cool Buzz in NL/BE), which he follows up with a bunch of other tour dates in April. This album (his fourth) is named after the multi-talented musician’s own car, and here is a taster:
*Hot news: Daniel himself has informed us that it apparently ended up somewhere in the Netherlands! You can get more insights into the mind of this ‘solid gold guy’ (as he is described by Bas of Belmont Bookings) by jumping right over to the Belmont Bamshakalah blog right here.
